synthetic
oil ONLY when it is diluted with 75% petroleum based motor oil.  Synthetic oil cannot be greater than 25% of the oil used to fuel this heater.  This heater will not burn straight synthetic oil nor oil that is contaminated with water or anti-freeze
Oil needs to be at least 45ºF to properly circulate through the pump - you may need to heat your oil before you fire your heater
