    MTEZ HNOS is an abbreviation of MARTINEZ HERMANOS (Martinez Brothers) - the name of the "taller de platero" (silversmith's workshop) in the D.F.
    DF stands for Distrito Federal, which means it was made in Mexico City.  Lack of eagle mark or Mexican numbering systems dates this piece to 1905-1948.  It is the personal belief of the seller that this piece dates to the early 1940's.  This piece originally belonged to an affluent woman who did a lot of traveling from the 40's to the 70's.
