    Description

Large 1 gallon size screw-cap bottle, embossed "Garrett's American Wines," in clear, colorless glass,
    with grapes and vines motif.
Bottle was found, dug, and cleaned by seller in Virginia, making him the bottle's second owner after whoever emptied it. Few such gallon bottles survive 50 years in the wild!!
Bottle has a distinct vertical mold seam that runs from top to bottom on each side; it bears no chips, cracks, or scratches. Seller cannot say if bottle ever had a paper label, but bottle
    has no label
    now.
Bottle does not have its original cap (
    however, seller will include a
    new white plastic cap,
    not shown
    .
    ) Bottle does exhibit
a slight hazy or cloudy area
of glass about the size of an adult's hand located inside on its shoulder region in one quadrant, seller thinks from rain water and snowmelt collecting there over time. The affected area is not particularly noticeable--not at all with water in the bottle--and it did not photograph. Bottom text reads "REFILLING PROHIBITED", "3441", and "DES.PAT.NO. 101182".
Seller is not a bottle collector except insofar as he has enjoyed finding them from time to time and looking a little into their identification and origins. He is not a bottle or glass expert, either. Bottle is offered here
    "as-is."
Garrett's wines had an interesting and unusual story, from 19th century origins in North Carolina on through to a move to Brooklyn, NY, before 1920, and continued production there of wines, alcohol, and grape juice
    during
Prohibition!! This bottle was likely p
roduced in New York sometime between the end of Prohibition in 1933 and 1965, when Garrett was acquired by Constellation Brands; see
    https://www.bklynlibrary.org/blog/2011/02/22/days-wine-and-onions
for more company backstory. Bottle weighs 2 pounds 14 ounces (empty), and stands 12" tall at 6" diameter. Please see my photographs, as they complete the description of this bottle. To be shipped by USPS priority mail or UPS ground at calculated shipping charges to your zip code location.
