Description
These Victorian era haircombs have become extremely difficult to find especially in top condition. I have owned a number of these with the brass ormolu and sometimes stones but never one with such beauty as this particular example. If the pictures on this listing are clear, one would be able to see three green cabochon stones with two clear rhinestones between these stones and capped off with clusters of three pale lavender stones at each end. These are all mounted in a very intricate brass piece which is permanently attached to the tortoise shell colored comb. I have heard very early combs used actual tortoiseshell, I’m not sure if this is the actual material or faux lucite, tending to believe the latter material. The comb measures 4 1/4” wide and 2 5/8” top to bottom. Thorough examination reveals no damage or repairs to either the lucite material or the brass ormolu. Several areas on the brass show patina, I have not cleaned this patina. All stones are intact, none missing nor seem to have been replaced. I see no evidence of any deterioration of the comb material which sometimes occurs. A fantastic example to put on any vanity or for that matter wear to a formal outing. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description. Please check back to my listings often as I will be posting numerous fine examples of glass, pottery and porcelain in the near future.
Thank you.
