    Description

This Antique Circa Mid 1800 multi tooth Victorian Hair Comb is made from a combination of materials that I believe to be Gutta Percha and Vulcanite.  I am not positive about either but from the research I have done, I am fairly sure that the comb itself is molded Vulcanite and the balls that are mounted on the top are made of Gutta Percha.  This comb was worn as a piece of mourning jewelry as was the fashion at the time.
The comb measures approx. 5" long by 3 1/4" from the bottom of the center tooth to the top of the center ball.  The balls are pierced through the center becoming a bead with a large hole similar to an olive that has a hole that goes all the way through.  The balls are attached to the top of the comb with screw-like pins.  The balls each measure approx. 16.5mm in diameter and can be turned on the pins so that the holes show from the front.
The comb is in excellent condition with no breaks, cracks or crazing.
Please note that the last two pictures are of other combs that I have listed.  This auction is for the Mourning Comb only.  Please see my other auctions for a description of the bow shaped comb and Fleur de Lis Comb.
Please look at all the pictures and ask questions.  I am more than happy to respond.
